Long Shot on Netflix: what was actually reported

There is no Long Shot movie of Kennedy Ryan’s novel, and there is no premiere date. On 23 September 2026 Deadline reported a drama series in development at Netflix, referred to as Hoops, based on all three novels: Long Shot, Block Shot, and Hook Shot. “In development” is not a series order.

Only Deadline is an independent report. Kirkus and Yahoo repeat it.

The other Netflix show called Hoops

Netflix already released an adult animated sitcom called Hoops on 21 August 2020 and cancelled it after one season. Wikipedia is the single source for that cartoon’s dates here. That cartoon is not Kennedy Ryan’s books. A search for “Hoops Netflix” hits the cartoon first. The 2026 report is a separate live-action development item.

What I will not add

I found no Netflix press release and no Tudum page for the Ryan project. Kirkus (25 September 2026) and a Yahoo piece the same week both cite Deadline, so they are not a second confirmation. Casting, episode count, and a release window are blank on purpose.

The books themselves are listed on the reading-order page. The 2019 film that also uses the title is on the title guide.

Questions people ask

Is there a Long Shot Hoops movie?

Not a movie. Deadline reported a Netflix series in development in September 2026. It has not been ordered to series and has no premiere date.

Is the Netflix cartoon Hoops the same project?

No. The cartoon premiered on 21 August 2020 and was cancelled after one season. It is unrelated to Kennedy Ryan.

Who is writing it?

Deadline named Adrian Dukes as writer and executive producer. The same report lists Kennedy Ryan among the executive producers.
